Featuring heavyweights like Sipho Gumede (bass), Khaya Mahlangu (sax) and Themba Mkhize (keys), jazz supergroup Sakhile were a far cry from the big-selling commercial acts of the day, more akin to the Malopoets or Sankomota. Their brand of cerebral jazz nevertheless appealed to a broad audience, black and white, in SA and abroad.
